Editorial staff
The Motorship offers an independent and unbiased opinion on issues affecting readers and the industry. It is produced by a dedicated maritime media business, independent from advertisers and institutions, and staffed by writers who have long experience in the marine industry.
Our writers are experienced in technical journalism, so can present the salient points in the clear, concise and informed style expected by today's busy shipping professional. This, together with its long heritage, makes The Motorship the first choice magazine for our readers, and the one which is actually read by choice - a recent AdQ publisher’s report shows that our editorial is more than three times more likely to be read than our nearest competitor’s.
The Motorship is not afraid to offer its own opinions and welcomes reader feedback. Our weekly eNews Updates, regularly-updated web site, and the printed magazine, reach those at sea as well as shore-based engineers, and enable a multi-directional dialogue between our readers, our advertisers, and ourselves.

Bill Thomson: After several years in engineering design and technical authorship, Bill’s first journalistic position was at Motor Boat & Yachting magazine. He first joined the staff of The Motorship in 1990, and after a few years he moved to become editor of Marine Propulsion and Small Ships magazines. He later edited Safety at Sea International and a couple of other marine and transport titles for the same company, before turning freelance and editing Ship & Boat International for RINA as well as Marine Propulsion under its new owner. He has also worked on magazines and events in the power generation industry.
When Mercator Media acquired The Motorship in 2007, Bill fulfilled a long-held ambition to return to the magazine as editor.

Feature Writer - sknight@mercatormedia.com
Stevie Knight writes feature items for a number of magazines across the Mercator Media titles – and is very happy to have special input to Maritime Journal, Port Strategy and Boating Business in particular.
Technology has always been an interest – even before her days in the Engineering Council: “Widgley things that make everyone’s life easier” have been a significant part of her life from the time she earned pocket money from drawing up replacement machine parts for a catalogue to freelance work for the Direct Writing Association.
She has also spent the last two decades or so writing, subbing and editing pieces for a number of publications, both B2B and social titles, and loves a good story.
