Editorial
The Motorship is the leading and oldest-established magazine looking primarily at the technical aspects of ship operation and shipbuilding, with an emphasis on the ship itself and its machinery.
Our readers are the senior personnel responsible for technical aspects of operation in shipping and ship management companies, as well as consultants and naval architects and those involved in the shipbuilding and marine equipment industries. They are qualified and experienced marine engineers, most of whom have been to sea.
The Motorship continues to offer an independent and unbiased opinion on issues affecting readers and the industry. It is produced by a dedicated maritime media business, independent from advertisers and institutions, and staffed by writers who have long experience in the marine industry.
Our writers are experienced in technical journalism, so can present the salient points in the clear, concise and informed style expected by today's busy shipping professional. This, together with its long heritage, makes The Motorship the first choice magazine for our readers, and the one which is actually read by choice – a recent AdQ publisher’s report shows that our editorial is more than three times more likely to be read than our nearest competitor’s.
The Motorship is not afraid to offer its own opinions, in the editorial comment page and in feature articles and news items. We seek reader feedback, through the printed magazine and our regularly-updated web site. We also recognise the increasing importance of electronic publishing and believe that it supports and complements the printed word rather than replaces it. In particular, we are mindful of the fact that, with ever-improving shore-to-ship communications, this offers the opportunity to reach those at sea as well as shore-based engineers, and enables a multi-directional dialogue between our readers, our advertisers, and ourselves.
