Navigational updates delivered to ships via e-mail

27 Jan 2010

Chart agent Thomas Gunn Navigation Services says that it has enjoyed further success with its Voyager service, which delivers weekly Notice to Mariners and tracings correction data direct to vessels by e-mail or via web access.

The Voyager service was launched in June 2008 and the company says that over 800 ships now subscribe to the service.

Version 2 of Voyager was recently released and incorporates a file compression module which allows file size reduction by a further 60%, which the company claims makes it the most technically advanced e-mail service in the market.

Thomas Gunn, managing director, adds: " I have no doubt that this major break through in file compression techniques will lead to many more subscribers to the service. This has been further confirmed by the decision of a very large ship management company to adapt Voyager throughout its fleet. This is a major endorsement of our commitment to investing in the latest technologies to ensure our customers get the best possible service."
