Bunker supplier revises strategy

31 Jul 2010

OW Bunker, a supplier and trader of marine fuel, says that it is implementing a new corporate strategy to support significant growth, and to create a foundation for expansion over the coming years.

The process, which will be completed by 2011, will see the implementation of a global business and sales strategy that is devolved from a central function, and delivered and managed across five key regions; Asia, Northern Europe, Central Europe, The Mediterranean and the Middle East and South America.

In conjunction with delivering this strategy, OW Bunker is undertaking a recruitment process, which will see the appointment of new regional directors, a global sales director, as well as a number of regional and global sales account executives.

OW Bunker says that in recent years it has realised exponential growth to become one of the largest global independent, full service bunker suppliers in the industry with over 8% of the market, and a presence in all major oil service areas in the world. The new strategy will serve to maximise business optimisation in each region, and enhance operational synergies across the group by ensuring closer collaboration and alignment between regional and local offices as well as the sharing of knowledge on a worldwide basis. The company’s risk management division, cargo division and tanker division, which has over 30 vessels, will support each region.

Swedish merger

Meanwhile, OW Bunker has centralised its Swedish operation by merging its Stockholm office with the regional headquarters in Gothenburg. This will help provide product deliveries in all west coast ports, and ports in southern Sweden, including Helsingborg and Malmö. OW Bunker also provides an offshore service out of Gothenburg for customers who do not want to deviate from their routes, saving time, as well as associated in port costs.

The Gothenburg operation has particular expertise in the supply of low sulphur fuel oils, and has access to quality products with a content of 1.5%, 1.0% sulphur and below, which are now being demanded by many customers. OW Bunker says that it maintains healthy stocks of fuel oil of 1.0% sulphur content and below.
