During the months of May and June, both the Navantia shiprepair yards of Cadiz-San Fernando and Fene-Ferrol were kept busy with a good cross section of vessel types including several units of the Spanish navy.

Cadiz-San Fernando

The new dredger Leiv Eiriksson completed her delivery docking at the San Fernando yard during which two new blocks on the stern of the vessel were installed in order to reduce vibrations.

The major repair of the bulk carrier Mercury K was completed including replacing a total of 288 tonnes of steel in the areas of the flat bottom and bilges. The Moroccan ropax ferry Le Rif drydocked to carry out repairs which included the full overhaul of the starboard main engine and a partial overhaul of the port engine.

Routine drydocking repair works were carried out on the container vessel Pioneer Buzzard while the dredger Dravo Costa Dorada underwent emergency drydocking at Cadiz to replace the four blades of one propeller and to renew the stern tube seals on both shaft lines.

The ropax ferry Berkane drydocked to install two new lifeboats and davits, while the ropax ferry Banasa had a set of flood control doors installed in the garage deck. The Drace Uno, a split hopper, drydocked in an open position in order to carry out routine repair works as well as the substitution of one of the hopper opening hydraulic cylinders.

The Punta Salinas, the first of a series of three 2010 drydockings awarded to Navantia by the Spanish maritime rescue authority Remolques Maritimos, underwent routine maintenance work in addition to the withdrawal and inspection of both tail shafts and the renewal of the shaft seals.

Fene-Ferrol

During May, the yard carried out alongside maintenance to the Shell owned LNG carriers LNG Gemmata and LNG Port Harcourt, the overhaul and repairs of the main and auxiliary engines of the ferry El Djazair II and the repair of the main engine reduction gear on the offshore support vessel REM Fortune. The yard also effected the drydockings of the fast trimaran ropax ferry Benchijigua Express, the tanker Toledo Spirit and the general cargo vessel Begonia I.

During the month of June, the yard handled four commercial vessels and five units of the Spanish Navy.
