Anti-glare screens for offshore platform

Solar Solve of the UK is supplying blackout blinds and roller screens for a major offshore installation.
June 2010 will see completion of the installation and commissioning of what is claimed to be the worlds largest offshore oil production facilities when the United Arab Emirates Umm Shaif project comes on stream.
Consisting of three oil production platforms all built in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered to the middle southern Persian Gulf site during 2009, the gas outputs will be exported to Das Island, more than 31 km away, via a subsea pipeline.
At full capacity the daily production of the triple platform complex is expected to reach 300,000 barrels of oil and one billion ft³ of gas.
The third and final platform, Q-460, measures 40m wide, 36m long, 32m tall, weighs 7,041 tonnes and forms the accommodation platform, capable of housing 100 people.
UK based Solar Solve Marine has supplied 52 of its Litetite blackout roller blinds for windows in the accommodation areas and 20 Solasafe anti glare, heat rejecting roller screens to control room windows on the Q-460 platform, all products being type approved.
Julie Lightfoot, Solar Solve Marine’s managing director, commented, “On the scale of the overall project this order was miniscule but for our company this is not only a prestigious project and a significant order value exceeding $10,000, but being for an offshore platform the builders and owners needed to be completely confident that Solar Solve’s products meet the fire safety requirements demanded for such vessels.”
