Cosalt of the UK has announced two recent major orders for safety equipment for use on passenger ships.

Princess Cruiseshas awarded the company a contract to supply 20 man overboard (MOB) recovery Systems. All ships in the Princess fleet will carry Cosalt MOB systems on board ready for deployment from the ship's pilot door if difficult sea conditions prohibit the launch of a rescue boat.

Cosalt describes its MOB recovery system as a ladder-style device, which enables casualties, conscious or unconscious, to be retrieved from the water quickly in a horizontal position. This mode of recovery reduces the threat of heart and blood circulation problems in a person whose temperature is reduced by exposure. The product is used by rescue operators, oil companies, tug owners, dive operators, navies, and coastguards as well as cruise and ferry ships. Its modular design means it can be adapted to suit all types of vessel, whether for MOB retrieval from a standby vessel, a fast rescue craft, an enclosed lifeboat or from a floating stretcher.

The SOLAS-approved system is said to be keenly priced and requires servicing every three years, which Cosalt says offers benefits over competing products.

In another order, Cosalt is supplying lifejackets and rope products for P&O Ferries new large ro-pax ships Spirit of Britain and Spirit of France, at present being built at STX Europe’s Rauma, Finland yard. In total, the order covers 2,998 Cosalt Premier 2010 lifejackets and about £75,000 worth of fibre rope products. The Premier 2010 lifejacket is approved to the latest, more stringent MSC20(80) regulations  that came into force on 1st July 2010. Cosalt will be supplying a complete range of adult, child and infant lifejacket sizes.
