Conference Details
The 3rd Gas Fuelled Ships Conference, in association with The Motorship, will bring industry professionals together to network, discuss topical issues, and exchange information and ideas.
The stringent Tier III regulations which apply to ships within Emission Control Areas will be coming in to force in 2016! These increasingly tough environmental regulations mean that further investment to reduce emissions in the shipping industry is needed now. However, this focus on green issues and environmental legislation potentially increases costs. Switching to cleaner fuels could be the solution, and with an abundant supply of natural gas, LNG is becoming the most promising maritime fuel. LNG is price-competitive with fuel oils but needs further investment in the gas supply chain to encourage wider use by shipping. A change to alternative fuels also brings about other areas for development such as ship architecture and the safety aspects for storage and handling of gas on board ships.
The 2012 Gas Fuelled Ships Conference will comprise a Welcome Reception on 11 September 2012 at the Rolls Royce Bergen engine plant. This will be followed by the two day technical conference, 12-13 September 2012, and technical visits on 13 & 14 September 2012 to see LNG ferries bunkering, an LNG production plant and a gas terminal.
The Call for Papers for the 2012 conference has now cloase and the provisional programme will be released shortly.
