We are looking for a forward thinking individual to join our small team of Duty Harbour Masters. As the senior operational manager on site, this exceptionally varied role will see you taking responsibility for the day to day running of the port ensuring the smooth functioning of one of the most strategically important ports in the UK.

As Duty Harbour Master you will provide pilotage services for cruise and cargo ships, including the administration of Pilotage Exemption Certificates (PEC’s), and the investigation of marine incidents.

The Duty Harbour Master will be required to:

  • Actively monitor overall Port operations to ensure safety, security, efficiency and business continuity.
  • Deal with day to day referred Vessel Traffic Services issues.
  • Provide senior management guidance to duty personnel.
  • Act as an authorised Port of Dover Pilot.
  • Be the first responder to Port incidents, collating evidence, carrying out initial investigations and making recommendations as appropriate.
  • This will be working predominately on a 4 on 4 off rota basis covering days and nights.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A valid MCA STCW II/2 Master Unlimited Certificate of Competence
  • VHF Radio Certificate
  • Port of Dover Pilotage Authorisation (training will be provided)
  • Extensive experience as Master or Chief Officer
  • Extensive ship handling experience and ability
  • Management and leadership in a marine environment
