The Spanish shipyard Astilleros Hijos de J Barreras in Vigo has recently delivered the Euro 100 million SF Alhucemas to ferry owner, Balearia.

The new ropax ferry left the shipyard on 22 January and is now sailing in the Mediterranean between the ports of Ibiza, Denia and Barcelona.

SF Alhucemas is part of the new series of ferries that Balearia ordered from the shipyard. The first vessel, Martin i Soler has been fully operational since last January while the Passio per Formentera joined the fleet last summer.

The new ropax ferry measures 154.51m long, 24.2m wide and has a capacity of 1,000 crew and passengers. In addition, the vessel has 1,136 lane metres for trailers and 633 lane metres for cars. The vessel is powered by two 9,000kW MaK main motors giving a service speed of 21.4 knots.
