BIMCO releases calculator for EEDI
The EEDI calculator tool can be downloaded from the BIMCO website
Shipowner organisation BIMCO says that development and verification testing has been completed for the first version of the BIMCO EEDI calculator which can now be downloaded from the BIMCO website.
BIMCO says it developed the EEDI calculator as an easy-to-use tool to assist its members calculating the EEDI and plotting a ship’s index against the relevant ship type specific regulatory limits imposed by MARPOL Annex VI. The calculator is an implementation of the calculation guideline contained in IMO Circular MEPC.1/Circ.681. The calculation guideline is still being reviewed by MEPC, and BIMCO will issue updated versions of the calculator as amendments are published in the future.
The organisation hopes that the EEDI calculator will make EEDI performance of known ship designs more visible, as well as providing an easy way to assess changes in EEDI when design parameters are altered.
