Daewoo wins Tunisian ropax contract

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has won a 310 billion won ($262 million) order to build a ropax ferry for Tunisian state-owned ferry operator COTUNAV (Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation) for delivery in first half of 2012.

The newbuilding is an overnight car passenger cruise ship style ferry with a length of 210m, beam of 50m and a capacity for 3,200 passengers and 1,060 cars. Passenger facilities will include shopping, children’s play area, restaurants, swimming pools, night clubs and internet cafes.

With the deal, Daewoo Shipbuilding has won orders valued at over $5 billion so far this year. The shipbuilder is aiming to reach $10 billion for the year.
