Det Norske Veritas reports that a project, involving seven Norwegian offshore shipping companies, has been established to identify energy efficiency and fuel saving initiatives for the offshore shipping industry.

The joint industry project is known as ‘Energy Efficient Offshore Partners’, and consists of: BOA Offshore, Eidesvik Offshore, Farstad Shipping, Gulf Offshore Norge, Havila Shipping, Siem Offshore and Solstad Offshore, with classification society DNV as project manager.

The project aims to identify and implement best practice solutions with regards to energy efficiency, acknowledging that the synergies between energy efficiency and environmental impact will be a competitive advantage for the partners. With the knowledge that the offshore industry can reduce emissions, the partners recognise that there will be a much greater impact through working together as a co-operation than individually.

The project’s vision is that the partners are co-operating to create a common platform to improve the industry standard for fuel consumption and emissions from offshore supply vessels. The partnership aims to keep a position at the forefront of energy efficient offshore operations.

The project’s first phase is scheduled for completion in Spring 2012.
