Bakker Sliedrecht reports continued collaboration with Chinese clients

Bakker Sliedrecht, of The Netherlands, says that after many years of successful cooperation with Chinese shipyards in Tianjin and Dalian, the company continues to receive new orders from Chinese clients.

One of the latest Chinese contracts for Bakker Sliedrecht electrical equipment for specialised dredging and offshore vessels comes from Jiangsu Haixin Ship Heavy Industry in Nantong, for the supply of four submersible motors for the submerged dredge pump and cutter on a cutter suction dredger currently under construction. The IP68 motors are designed for a working depth up to 35m and are rated at 1,400kW, being designed to cope with the harsh conditions onboard dredgers. Similar motors were recently delivered to another Chinese customer, Qingdao Beiya Construction. On both of these projects, Bakker worked in conjunction with design specialists at Shangai Jiao Tong University.

Bakker was previously granted another project for the Chinese market from USA-based dredge pump manufacturer GIW. The 4,500kW oil filled submersible motor will be directly mounted to the impeller of the pump thus improving efficiency and reliability. The motor and pump will be delivered by GIW to Tianjin Dredging Company in 2012.

An order from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) was given to Bakker to supply the main electrical equipment for a new cable laying vessel for Dutch contractor Boskalis. The contract comprises design and delivery of switchboards, multi-drive systems for thrusters and winches, an AMS/PMS system which is based on Bakker's own BIMAC platform, and a Kongsberg DP system. Bakker will be responsible for system integration.

Bakker chairman, Sjaak Verhoeven, underlines the importance of these orders: "We are glad our Chinese customers recognise the added value of working with Bakker. Our people are dedicated to supply the best possible technology combined with the highest quality standards and we thank our Chinese customers for their confidence."
