ABS is meeting industry needs with the formation of a Global Gas Solutions team to control its liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) capabilities.

A team of experienced gas professionals will work with owners, shipyards and equipment manufacturers to provide a range of services including specification reviews, risk and hazard assessments, bunkering suitability reviews and new construction project management and training.

“The discovery of new gas resources around the world and the exciting potential for wide-scale adoption of gas as a marine fuel are leading to a dynamic shift in the global marketplace," said Christopher J Wiernicki, chairman and CEO, ABS.

ABS says the new team will focus on the growing gas market in the US, which is becoming “a catalyst for the next revolution in the global gas marketplace”.

“To help clients navigate the unique characteristics and requirements of the US, our team of professionals brings together both the technical and market experience to help owners, shipyards and manufacturers successfully develop gas projects,” added Patrick Janssens who will lead the organisation as vice president for Global Gas Solutions.

Roy Bleiberg, currently director of engineering for ABS Americas, will assume the new role of director of US gas development, while Kurt Larsen, currently assistant chief surveyor within the corporate classification department, will assume the new role of director of US gas operations and performance.
