Bergen Group has won an order to build a ST-259 CD offshore construction vessel

Bergen Group Fosen has signed a contract with Volstad Maritime to build an offshore construction ship at an estimated cost of NOK 725 million ($122 million) for delivery in the second quarter of 2012.

The contract is subject to final board approval and financing and includes an option for building a similar offshore vessel for delivery in 2013. The option is valid until end of the first quarter of 2011.

Since 2005, the Ålesund-based Volstad Maritime has ordered all of its newbuildings from Bergen Group Fosen. The shipping company has, during this period, taken delivery of a total of five advanced offshore vessels from the yard. The new contract is for construction of a "large and advanced" OCV (offshore construction vessel) with a length of 125m and a beam of 25m. The ship will fulfill the 'clean design' requirements for environmentally optimised operation and will have 1A ice class. The newbuilding is to the ST-259 CD design from Skipsteknisk of Ålesund.

The yard says the contract with Volstad Maritime will generate engineering and planning activities from January 2011. The hull is scheduled to arrive at Fosen in late 2011/early 2012 and the outfitting work will be completed during the second quarter of 2012.
