Cargotec secures ro-ro equipment orders

01 Nov 2012

Finnish headquartered cargo equipment specialist, Cargotec, has secured a large order for ro-ro cargo access equipment for four 45,000dwt container ro-ro vessels for Italian shipping company Ignazio Messina.

The ships will be built at the STX Jinhae shipyard in Korea and the equipment will be delivered towards the end of 2013. Each MacGregor shipset will include a quarter ramp, stern door, ramp covers and doors, division doors and a power pack.

Magnus Sjöberg, sales director for RoRo ships, said: "RoRo equipment is an integral part of a vessel's cargo-handling capability. Involving Cargotec at an early stage enables us to use our experience to design the most efficient, safe cargo handling solution in order to maximise the ship's overall efficiency and profitability."

Meanwhile the company has also recently secured a similar contract with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea for Neptune Line’s two new 3,500 ceu pure car/truck carriers (PCTCs).

This time though, the order also includes a moveable flap and liftable car deck, as well as pilot and bunker doors.

Cargotec points out that MacGregor RoRo cargo access equipment helps to ensure reliable operations, but also enables fast port turnaround times for the operator.
