Global classification society, ClassNK, has been granted authorisation to carry out statutory surveys on behalf of the Myanmar Government.

The agreement, which was signed on 26 April 2013, is based on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) A.739 (18) resolution.

It includes all previous separate agreements for each convention along with new authorisation for other international conventions, allowing ClassNK to conduct surveys for Myanmar flagged vessels for an even wider range of international conventions.

Myanmar is one of the fastest growing economies in South East Asia and is one of the world’s main producers of seafarers.

This agreement follows the company’s establishment of its first exclusive survey office in Yangon at the beginning of April. This allows ClassNK to directly dispatch surveyors through the Myanmar region.

ClassNK currently operates 122 exclusive survey offices around the world and is authorised to carry out statutory surveys on behalf of over 100 flag administrations.
