The centres use DNV's ECO Insight platform to monitor individual vessel and fleet data

DNV GL has opened digital fleet performance centres in Hamburg and Singapore which aim to help improve vessel efficiency by monitoring and optimising operations.

The centres use industry information and DNV's ECO Insight platform to monitor individual vessel and fleet data from customers to assess voyage, hull and propeller, engine and systems, and fuel quality performance.

“The fleet performance centres are just one of the ways we are working to use digitalization to help our customers enhance their competitiveness through improved efficiency, greater safety, and increased margins,” said Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV GL – Maritime.

Intelligence is used to address issues including speed loitering and over-usage of auxiliary engines or boilers, and to undertake ad-hoc investigations into claims cases. As part of the service, DNV GL performance managers look at why performance is different between vessels of the same fleet and propose actions.

German owner Leonhardt & Blumberg has taken part in pilot development and operational trials for the last nine months. It has installed the ECO Insight tool on 35 of its vessels, and plans to add it to around 20 more.

Christian Rychly, managing director, said: “To mitigate the market pressure, we exactly need those tools which enhance our efficiency and help us to comply with the ever more challenging environmental regulations."

ECO Insight 2.0 will be released in August.
