Port Strategy editor, Carly Fields, has won the 2012 Seahorse Journalist Award for International Editor of the Year, and one of its regular contributors, Felicity Landon, also received the Award for Supply Chain Journalist of the Year.

The annual Seahorse Journalist Awards, held in association with Associated British Ports (ABP), recognises the best journalists in the marine industry for their expertise in the freight, passenger, shipping and logistics sectors. This is the first time Port Strategy has won an award in two categories.

Carly was up against tough competition from five other editors and won the award based on her five hundred word Port Strategy editorial philosophy. On receiving the accolade, she commented: “In a crowded media market place like marine, it’s important to develop original content. Stories can be found in the most unexpected places and guiding contributors to deliver that unique angle has allowed our magazine to become the leading title.”

Carly has been in the media industry for over 13 years, but her involvement in the maritime industry goes back further and is founded on a 1st class Bachelor of Science Maritime Studies degree from Liverpool John Moores University in 1998. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive this International Editor of the Year Award in recognition of the hard work and commitment I put into Port Strategy. No Editor can take all the accolades as it can only be achieved with the support of excellent writers, a fantastic production team, dedicated sales executives and a committed publisher.”

Port Strategy's second award went to Felicity Landon, an experienced freelance journalist specialising in global maritime, industry and logistics. She received the Supply Chain Journalist of the Year award for the feature Stepping up a gear, which examined port centric operations. Felicity commented: “While it is gratifying for me to get the recognition, these awards are also an acknowledgement of the team and the magazine itself. Port Strategy subject area is extremely broad and we write a wide variety of features. I think it does a fantastic job in helping people understand the different parts of what is a very complex jigsaw.”

Carly added: “Felicity Landon is an excellent journalist, who I am extremely proud to include in the Port Strategy writing team. Her knowledge of shipping is vast and revels in the opportunity to take on new challenges whenever I ask them of her. The Award could not have gone to a more fitting journalist – well done Felicity!”

Port Strategy is published by business-to-business media company, Mercator Media. Mercator MD, Andrew Webster, praised the Port Strategy editorial team for the awards, saying: “Both Carly and Felicity are talented and very worthy recipients. It’s great when people recognise good journalism and investment in content.”
