Evergreen Line is to install ClassNK-NAPA Green eco-efficiency software on its chartered container vessels, allowing shore-based teams to monitor, record and analyse real-time data from the charter fleet.

The installation of the software, developed by classification society ClassNK and software subsidiary NAPA, was chosen in a competitive tender process. Juha Heikinheimo, president of NAPA, said that he expected the software’s trim optimisation as well as speed and voyage routing functions to generate fuel efficiencies of around 4-6%.

Heikinheimo added that the installation on Evergreen’s charter fleet reflected “the trend of charterers demanding both greater accuracy and data transparency from their operators, as well as increased efficiency in operations”.

“We see the growing level of data transfer between charter parties as very positive,” he added.

Noboru Ueda, chairman and president of ClassNK said: “When we began developing ClassNK-NAPA Green we saw that there was a need for new tools to help owners and operators better monitor and optimise the efficiency of vessel operations. Now just a few years later, we are excited that many of the world’s leading shipping companies are choosing to implement ClassNK-NAPA Green across both their owned and chartered fleets.”

Last year ClassNK and NAPA published the results of sea trials showing that the software’s dynamic performance model can estimate a vessel's performance with an accuracy of 99.6%, allowing users to set effective benchmarks and key performance indicators.
