ISO standards improve quality of marine fuels

06 Jul 2010

New editions of two ISO standards on marine fuels have been developed to meet higher international requirements for air quality, ship safety, engine performance and crew health.

The development of ISO 8217:2010, Petroleum products - Fuels (class F) - Specifications of marine fuels, the fourth edition of this standard, was driven by a request by ISO's partner, the IMO, to have it ready by the 1 July 2010 implementation date of the revised Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
