MHI places waste heat recovery order for Maersk newbuilds

Alfa Laval says it has won an order from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to supply Alfa Laval Aalborg exhaust gas economisers to vessels built for A.P. Møller - Mærsk. The order is worth about SEK230million.

The systems will use exhaust gases from the main engine to produce steam for a turbine which generates electrical power. Alfa Laval says the system has been developed in close cooperation with main engine and turbine suppliers for optimum performance and flexibility, and covers the electrical demand onboard the ship without operation of any of the generator sets. Delivery is scheduled to start in 2012 and be completed during 2014.

“This order is interesting in many ways – it is one of our largest so far, it includes newly acquired products and involves a couple of major players in the marine industry,” says Lars Renström, president and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group. “We can also conclude that 2012 has started well, with the booking of two large orders worth approximately SEK340million in total already during January.”
