MHI spin-off companies named

08 Sep 2015

The two new companies established by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to focus on ship construction and manufacture of hull blocks at its Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works Koyagi Plant, have been named.

MHI will spin off its ship construction business to a group company called Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding Co Ltd and the hull block manufacture business to a group company called MHI Hull Production Co Ltd.

The latter will be established especially for the company split by absorption-type splits on 1 October 2015.

As previously reported by The Motorship, the two new companies will take on MHI’s construction business for large commercial ships at Nagasaki, while cruise ship construction will be separated and operated as a new business under MHI’s Commercial Aviation & Transportation Systems domain.

The point of the split was to allow MHI to better focus on commercial vessels at its Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works Koyagi Plant.
