Winch order for mega-boxships
German deck equipment supplier TTS Marine, of Bremen, has announced a contract to provide the anchor and mooring winch system for the largest container vessels yet to be built.
The agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea comprises the delivery of electric frequency controlled winches for a 20-ship series of 18,000TEU container vessels to be built at DSME for what TTS describes as “one of the world’s leading shipowners” – but it is well known, and has been reported here previously, that an order for 20 such boxships has been placed with DSME by Maersk.
The frequency controlled electro driven winch system that TTS will install on each of these 400m ships has been designed to perform according to the shipowner’s own innovative specification. Ivar K. Hanson, executive vice president and head of TTS marine division, says: “TTS is very proud of the customer’s trust in its equipment. We regard this as confirmation that our solid technology and policy of ongoing research into the performance and reliability of our products is bearing dividends.”
