Korean yard wins LNG FPSO order

09 Mar 2010

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries has secured a contract to build a liquefied natural gas floating production storage and offloading (LNG-FPSO) platform for Royal Dutch Shell worth an estimated four to five billion dollars.

The LNG-FPSO unit would be delivered by 2016 at a price that would be fixed by the end of this year. Samsung said it and Technip, a French oil and gas producer, would jointly design the floating facility which will measure 468m long, 74m wide and 100m high. The deal marked the first such contract since Samsung agreed last July to exclusively supply LNG-FPSOs to Royal Dutch Shell over the next 15 years.
