GTT LNG tank design contract

Mark III Flex The LNG tanks will be equipped with GTT’s membrane containment system Mark III Flex

GTT will undertake the tank design of two 174,000 m3 LNG carriers (LNGC) for Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI).

The company will design the LNG tanks of both units, which are being built on behalf of a European shipowner and each will each equipped with GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system.

"We are very pleased to receive these two orders from HSHI. It demonstrates the shipyard's confidence in our technologies and illustrates our strong partnership as well,” said Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT.

Successive orders

Back in January, GTT announced it had been awarded an LNG tank design deal for three new LNG carriers for a South Korean shipyard.

Each LNG tank with a capacity of 174,000m3 will also be equipped with GTT’s membrane containment system Mark III Flex.

GTT said the Mark III Flex insulation system has the ability to reduce the daily guaranteed Boil-Off gas rate to 0.085% of tank volume. It has already been used to equip 48 vessels in service.

At the end of last year, GTT and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) unveiled a 30,000m3 gas carrier design that does not require ballast water.

The B-FREE design by uses dual membrane tanks in order to improve space utilisation and boost stability.

All of the LNG tanks are due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2020.
