Marlink upgrades global maritime VSAT service for reliability and bandwidth
Maritime VSAT network operator Marlink says it has upgraded its global service with the integration of iDirect’s Evolution X5 Satellite Router and latest operating software release, iDX 3.0.
The upgrade applies to vessels operating Marlink’s WaveCall services, which have received the required onboard equipment, enabling Marlink to increase reliability and bandwidth efficiency for voice, email, Internet and remote business applications.
Marlink’s upgrade to Evolution hardware and software is said to address evolving customer requirements for increased bandwidth and more efficient solutions for core voice and data connectivity. The Evolution product line enhances the efficiency and reliability of Marlink’s satellite service. Evolution is based on DVB-S2 with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), which helps Marlink ensure maximum service uptime by automatically adjusting signal strength to overcome rain or solar fade outages. Additionally, iDirect allows Marlink to control how it allocates and prioritises shared bandwidth by market segment, customer group, and application type.
“Competition in the maritime VSAT market has recently grown more intense, making it imperative for Marlink to differentiate its services and keep customers satisfied. Our three pillars of distinction are control, flexibility and support – iDirect’s Evolution product line is an integral component to delivering these. By upgrading to Evolution, we have addressed an increased range of customer application requirements and expanded our customer base without sacrificing service quality or affordability,” says Tore Morten Olsen, CEO of Marlink.
