Offshore seismic vessel delivered
Geo Caspian
Norway’s Bergen Group Fosen has recently delivered a new 4,750 dwt advanced offshore seismic vessel to Volstad Marine.
Named Geo Caspian, she is based on the Skipsteknisk ST-327L CD design seismic streamer vessel and is equipped to tow up to 16 streamers with the length of 8,000m. The vessel will be operated by Norwegian company Fugro-Geoteam.
“Volstad is getting a state-of-the-art ship. The ship contains the latest and most advanced equipment that the international market can provide in this segment,” said ceo Arnar Utseth at Bergen Group Fosen. The hull of the newbuilding was built at Bergen Group Landskrona in Sweden and arrived in Fosen during August 2009 for outfitting and commissioning.
The newbuilding is 108m long, 24m wide, has a gross tonnage of 13,000 tons and is powered by a Wartsila diesel electric power plant providing a cruising speed of 16.5 knots.
The ship is built and prepared for advanced seismic operations, and has equipment that makes it possible to operate under very demanding conditions. The vessel has integrated the helicopter deck, four deck cranes and a cabin capacity of 72 persons. The newbuilding will now go from Fosen to the Netherlands to be equipped and prepared for seismic operations.
Bergen Group Fosen are now preparing for the next hull to be fitted at the shipyard. It is an advanced 3 DP construction vessel being built for Solstad Offshore. The building of the hull is taking place in Poland and is expected to arrive Fosen in the middle of March for outfitting.
