Russia planning gas carrier construction

Admiralty Shipyards OJSC, in St. Petersburg, and Sovcomflot OJSC plan to sign a contract for construction of a gas carrier with a capacity of 80,000 m3, according to Vladimir Aleksandrov, Director General of Admiralty Shipyards. The vessel will be 260m long and 35m wide and delivery is scheduled for 2012-2013. The federal budget is supposed to finance the project. Aleksandrov says the management of the Admiralty Shipyards is planning meetings with Sergei Frank, head of Sovcomflot, as early as the next week to discuss the characteristics of the vessel.

The shipbuilder, which is part of Western Shipbuilding Center OJSC, is also planning the construction of another similar gas carrier to be deployed for gas transportation on the Arctic ? Kaliningrad route. The parameters of the vessel have not been disclosed. Currently the shipyard is building two 70,000 DWT ice-class tankers, Mikhail Ulyanov and Kirill Lavrov.
