The second shuttle and regasification vessel (SRV) co-owned by Höegh LNG and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) was recently completed at Samsung Heavy Industries and delivered to the GDF Suez group. It will serve on a long-term charter contract between the parties.

GDF Suez Cape Ann is the second of two SRVs that were constructed to provide LNG transportation services to the Neptune LNG deep water port off the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA, which was commissioned in early 2010, as well as to other GDF SUEZ projects around the world.

The vessel, along with its sister vessel GDF Suez Neptune, which was delivered in November 2009, is a part of Mitsui O.S.K. Line’s strategy of satisfying the diversified needs of the market by providing a broad range of LNG transportation services. These vessels are the most advanced of its kind, and will be able to meet the most stringent environmental conditions in the world for the emissions during operations at DWP. In addition, the first vessel already delivered, GDF Suez Neptune received the ‘Green Passport’ from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) certifying the environmental considerations taken when constructing, operating and ultimately disposing of the vessel.

The 280m long, 43.30m wide vessels are equipped with the tri-fuel diesel electric propulsion system (HFO, MDO and natural gas), with a single screw for a service speed of 19.5 knots and incorporate the reinforced GTT MKIII cargo containment system with 145,130m3 of cargo carrying-capacity at 100% volumes. They are fitted with three regasification skids for a total output capacity of approximately 21 million standard cubic meters of natural gas per day, and are also fully capable of operating as standard LNG carriers.
