Semi-submersible rig order for DSME
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of South Korea says that it has received an order worth $1.1 billion from Songa Offshore of Norway to build two semi-submersible drilling rigs for 2014 delivery.
The contract includes an option for two additional rigs. The vessels, each 116m long and 97m wide, will be chartered to Statoil of Norway for eight years. They are described by Songa as DP-3 or moored harsh environment semis, designed for efficient year around drilling, completion, testing and intervention operations, equipped for up to 500m water depth, with flexible design to allow for future deepwater and arctic operations which can be implemented by minor upgrades.
Daewoo Shipbuilding says it has won deals valued at $10 billion so far this year to build 42 ships.
