Solar Solve bucks the trend

11 Mar 2010

Far from being hit by the recession, South Shields based Solar Solve Marine, manufacturer of the SOLASOLV brand of ships roller sunscreens, continues to win significant orders and enjoy success, as well as the job security they offer for the future.

The unprecedented demand may be as a result of the effectiveness of its products in creating improved working environment for the ships staff or the savings in cost and carbon gas emissions that they can provide or more likely a combination of all three.

After a record breaking 2009, the first two months of 2010 have been even better than last year with a big influx of orders at the end of February. The vast majority of the orders are from Solar Solve’s world wide distributors based in Korea and China. They have taken advantage of the firm fixed prices negotiated with their supplier because they have to make such long-term commitments to the yards they serve, to win the business.

Carl Johnson, Solar Solve Marine’s operations director commented, “Projecting prices for the next 3 years is not easy, a bit of a gamble really but we have no choice. It will be fitting if 2010 is another record year, better still if it is our best ever. Not only will we be bucking the trend but it will be the ideal way to celebrate the 35th anniversary of our original business being established.”

To already have 4 months work in hand for 2010, so early in the year is a great position for the company to be in. With a further 6 weeks work already secured for 2011 and 10 orders confirmed for 2012, Solar Solve is confident that all employees at their Tyne Dock facility will remain gainfully employed throughout the recession and its challenging recovery.
