Stena Line owned ‘Stena Britannica’, the largest UK-registered ferry, has completed a successful first sailing out of British waters after its recent voyage from Harwich.

At just over 64.000gt, the North Sea super ferry Stena Britannica is larger than any other under the British flag, including Stena Line's own Stena Adventurer. Measuring 240m long, the newbuilding has a carrying capacity of 230 cars, 1,200 passengers and 538 cabins.

Despite her size, the ferry is said to be one of the most environmentally friendly currently operating out of the UK, thanks to catalytic converters, improved combustion engines, recycling systems for glass, cardboard and food and radiant heat-blocking solar film windows.

Lars Olsson, Stena Line’s commercial manager for travel on the North Sea, said, “Stena Line has spent three years and hundreds of millions of pounds to create the largest UK-registered ferry, and her sister vessel the Stena Hollandica, because we saw a real need for what we’re calling ‘the ferries of today for the passengers of the future’.

The new ro-pax ferry joins the Stena Hollandica as the second of Stena Line’s two newly built super ferries which represent a combined investment of over £375 million.
