SALARY: £39’500 - £46’000 DOE

We are looking for a talented, experienced Editor to join our award winning B2B media company for our niche brand, Maritime Journal. This is a full-time role, with some occasional travel.

Mercator Media produces leading specialist magazines, exhibitions, conferences, and websites, predominantly serving the commercial marine sector with pan-European and international audiences.

The company is in an exciting growth stage, launching new virtual events plus a range of new digital services, communities, and subscription service. With multiple brands, websites, and events, this is a unique opportunity for a results driven and dynamic Editor to join a great B2B media company.

The successful applicant will need to be self-motivated, flexible, and driven, with good communication, IT, and organisational skills. With a portfolio brands and event communities the Editor must be able to show initiative and work collaboratively with News, marketing, and Sales teams to ensure their Communities succeed.

The role is to deliver a high quality B2B magazine, website content, email marketing and on various digital platforms. Maritime Journal provides its niche audience with authoritative editorial provides by writers who are experts in their field. As the ambassador for the brand, you will work pragmatically with a commercial mind-set and take a pivotal and high-profile position in the progression of this title.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the news content and quality of the monthly publication, website, email marketing and digital formats to ensure articles & content are engaging and informative.
  • Generating ideas for features.
  • Overseeing the layout and appearance.
  • Attend exhibitions, press conferences, and press visits as required. Acting as an ambassador for the title and raising the profile of Maritime Journal brand.
  • Assist with developing and setting agendas for associated conferences.
  • Source images check images for copyright, content, format, and resolution.
  • Liaise with sales and subscriptions and assist as necessary with related Mercator Media events.
  • Work with other Editors to develop general best practices within Mercator Media.
  • Recommend new projects, investments, and additional resources for creating additional revenue opportunities.
  • Content planning. Lead and manage the mining, creation, development & repurposing of all relevant content and industry intelligence.
  • You’ll develop deep customer and subject matter insight, translating it into powerful content, research, experiences, and events.
  • Identify relevant industry innovations, insights, white papers, webinars and most importantly the relevant data that is interesting to the audience.
  • Reinforce Maritime Journal’s status as a Commercial Marine industry thought-leader and increase its following and rankings across all owned digital channels - including social media, e-marketing, website, and blogs.
  • Use analysis and reporting to understand content performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Apply visual and editorial style guidance consistently and diligently to develop high quality, consistent and professional content

 Skills & Attributes:

  • Proven experience an Editor with 5 years’ experience in professional editing.
  • Excellent news writing skills and a good track record of engaging with a range of different market sectors.
  • Experienced in writing engaging content for social media platforms within B2B markets.
  • Significant experience of sourcing, producing and repurposing content with excellent copy-writing and proofreading skills.
  • the ability to write and communicate subject matter to multiple audiences across all channels and media, in an accessible and engaging way.
  • Strong project management, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Effective communicator, able to converse with a variety of people at varying levels of seniority.
  • A positive, can do attitude with willingness and ability to deliver both personal and team goals.
  • Commercially astute you will be keen to join a company in which the delivery of corporate objectives in a team environment is both recognised and remunerated.
  • A proficient user of Microsoft Office applications.
