    China In New Challenge To European Yards

    China’s shipbuilding industry has reached a new milestone through the production of its first large-scale cruise vessel, the 135,500gt Adora Magic City. An extended trials campaign was implemented by builder Shanghai Waigaoqiao during July with the ship entering its final outfitting phase in anticipation of commissioning into service at the start of 2024.

    Japanese fully autonomous vessel project targets 2025 commercialisation

    The second phase of the Nippon Foundation’s MEGURI2040 project was announced in July 2023. The project, which intends to support the full-scale commercialisation of fully autonomous ship technology by 2025, will focus on demonstrating ship-shore operations using four different vessel types.

    AiP For Floating CO2 Storage Unit Concept

    DNV has awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and MISC Berhad (MISC) for their Floating CO2 Storage Unit (FCSU) concept. The innovative design is capable of functioning as an intermediate CO2 storage unit or as an injection vehicle (known as FCSU-i) for offshore CO2 reservoirs.

    DNV has confirmed that Erma First’s alternative maritime power (AMP) system, BLUE CONNECT, meets the requirements to be categorised as an ‘energy-saving device’ (ESD). In the same document, DNV recognises the solution’s ability to improve a vessel’s Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) ratings in line with regulations set out by the IMO.
