The US Coastguard has awarded type approval to De Nora for its BALPURE ballast water management system (BWMS).

De Nora has become the 15th company to receive the USCG certificate after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application.

The BALPURE system has been approved for both safe area and hazardous zone installations for internationally trading vessels including US-Flagged vessels.

BALPURE employs electrochlorination to disinfect ballast water through the slipstream method.

This method means that only 0.5% to 1% of the water entering the ballast line needs to be channelled into the treatment system, offering an effective solution for ships with large ballast tanks and high pumping rates.

The Motorship reported that De Nora had submitted the BALPURE BWTS for USCG type approval in March 2018.
