Wabtec Corporation confirmed the receipt of its first marine engine orders on 20 May. The company, which concluded the acquisition of GE Transportation earlier in 2019, secured an order for two 8L250MDC and two 12V250MDC marine engines for 'National Geographic Endurance', the icegoing cruise ship being built by Ulstein for Lindblad Expeditions.

The contract was concluded via Danish channel partner, VMS Group. The National Geographic Endurance is scheduled for delivery at Ulstein Verft AS shipyard in Norway in 2020.

The L250 and V250 Series Diesel Engines meet the EPA’s stringent Tier 4 and International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards without the use of urea after-treatment.  The absence of the requirement to handle urea infrastructure is a particular advantage for vessels operating in polar waters. The diesel engines also integrate an upgraded control system, high-pressure common rail fuel injection, two-stage turbocharging, and advanced exhaust gas recirculation.

“These orders further validate our products' ability to provide smart, safe, emission compliant, and reliable performance our customers need to be successful,” said Tammy Gromacki, Wabtec’s general manager of Marine, Stationary, and Drill. “Our industry-leading marine diesel engines reduce key emissions by more than 70 percent without compromising fuel efficiency and maintenance intervals.”

Wabtec also announced that Reinauer Transportation Companies, LLC, had ordered two mechanical propulsion 6L250MDC marine engines for its newest articulated tug-barge. The vessel will be built by Senesco Marine LLC in North Kingston, Rhode Island and is scheduled for delivery in 2020. The vessel will conduct operations off the U.S. East Coast and ocean.
