Formed in 1992, IBIA now has members in more than 68 countries including ship owners\/operators, bunker suppliers, traders, brokers, barging companies, storage companies, surveyors, port authorities, credit reporting companies, lawyers, P&I clubs, equipment manufacturers, shipping journalists and marine consultants.<\/p>\n

IBIA acts to promote improved standards, knowledge and understanding in the industry through a variety of events and courses, working groups, the provision of reliable and accurate information and practical advice.<\/p>\n

It also advocates for effective, pragmatic and workable regulations, including in one of the most important arenas, the International Maritime Organization (IMO). IBIA has consultative status as a non-governmental organisation to the IMO and attends all meetings of the IMO\u2019s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) and a number of sub-committees.<\/p>\n
