The ship, to be commissioned in August as HMAS Perth, was officially handed over to the Australian navy at Tenix&#8217;s Williamstown shipyard on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The shipyard&#8217;s future has been bleak since its failed attempt for the $6 billion navy destroyer contract last year.<\/p>\n<p>Under the 17-year project, Tenix built eight Anzac frigates for the Australian navy and two for New Zealand&#8217;s navy. The project created 8,000 jobs and generated another $3 billion in gross domestic product.
