WE Tech has ordered four permanent magnet (PM) shaft generators from Finnish supplier of megawatt-class permanent magnet generators, The Switch.<\/p>\n
Coupled with its WE Drive, WE Tech says these PM shaft generators will enable merchant ships to significantly cut back on operating costs when power onboard electric networks.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the WE Drive variable frequency drive from WE Tech Solutions and the PM shaft generator from The Switch, the ship\u2019s electrical network is generated with the same high efficiency throughout the full speed range of the main engine,\u201d said M\u00e5rten Storbacka, managing director, WE Tech Solutions.<\/p>\n
This feature is especially important in electrical part loads. The WE Drive also ensures 1 MW boost power directly to the propeller shaft to support the main engine when required, enabling a low-load optimised main engine.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese orders show the real need for new solutions to help seagoing vessels significantly lower the costs of operations, reduce maintenance needs and meet the increasingly stringent emission regulations,\u201d added Mika Koli, Business development manager, The Switch.<\/p>\n
