The M\u00e6rsk Mc-Kinney M\u00f8ller Center has a view"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If anyone can assess which low-emission energy projects may be \u2018in the money\u2019 under the IMO\u2019s Net-Zero Framework (NZF), it is Boudewijn Pragt from the M\u00e6rsk Mc-Kinney M\u00f8ller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, as the Propulsion &amp; Future Fuels Conference will hear.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As the center\u2019s Economics &amp; Transition Finance Manager, Pragt is focused on the economic impact of policies on shipping companies and marine fuel suppliers, and is leader of a project which quantifies an abatement cost curve for alternative fuels to assess alternative fuel supply potential by 2030 under the NZF.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Speaking in the <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Breaking Barriers: Expanding the Future Fuel Mix Beyond Conventional Pathways<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> session on the opening day of the conference, Pragt will make the case that the abatement cost curve analysis, overlayed with shipping\u2019s willingness to pay under the NZF, identifies which projects are \u2018in the money\u2019 \u2013 and also whether NZF-induced demand could unlock new supply.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On a broader subject, he also recently co-authored a paper on reward mechanisms for low-emission energy. It summarized the variables and trade-offs policymakers might consider when designing a reward programme, and found that while subsidies can either deliver cheap emission reductions today, or build fuel systems for long run abatement, a single policy can\u2019t do both well.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Boudewijn Pragt clearly has points to make.
