Contractor CSBC\u2019s Kaohsiung yard is due to complete the programme with the handover of the 10th newbuild in September 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The design has been developed to raise Yang Ming Line\u2019s competitiveness and capabilities in intra-Asia trade, and represents a major advance in both economic performance and environmental level relative to previous tonnage. <em>YM Celebrity<\/em> and <em>YM Continent<\/em> have been assigned to a Japan\/Taiwan\/Hong Kong\/China service, while the newly-commissioned <em>YM Credential<\/em> is to be deployed between Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the 10 vessels has been specified to meet Smart Ship notational criteria of various classification societies. In the case of series leader <em>YM Celebrity<\/em>, the standards applied are those of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).<\/p>\n<p>The company claims that the combination of machinery, hull lines, and shipboard systems means that the type promises a reduction of about 33% in fuel consumption compared to \u201cthe previous vessels\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>CSBC\u2019s proprietary Sea Sword Bow concept has been adopted, to provide better seakeeping and hydrodynamic efficiency in all conditions relative to more conventional bulbous bow forms. The cellular hold section is complemented by a lattice of weatherdeck lashing bridges, enhancing both cargo handling turnaround times and cargo security at sea, with further protection afforded by a substantial wavebreak on the raised forecastle. Electrical sockets are provided for 353 reefer boxes.<\/p>\n<p><em>YM Celebrity<\/em> is powered by a seven-cylinder S70ME-C10.5 diesel produced in South Korea by MAN licensee HSD Engine Co, and rated for a maximum continuous output of 20,500kW at 91rpm. With direct drive to a Nakashima fixed pitch propeller, the installation ensures a design speed of 21 knots. The troika of 1,900kW generators also derives from Korea, being HFC7 models from the Hyundai Electric &amp; Energy Systems range.<\/p>\n<p>Built under the ABS Enhanced Hull Construction Monitoring Program, <em>YM Celebrity<\/em> carries the society\u2019s SMART notations, as does <em>YM Continent<\/em> and three of the newbuilds to come (<em>YM Certainty<\/em>, <em>YM Credibility<\/em> and <em>YM Continuity<\/em>). The SmartINF (data infrastructure for smart function implementation) and Smart SHM (structural health monitoring) descriptions denote that the recipient vessels are equipped for \u2018big data\u2019 acquisition and \u2018cloud\u2019 transmission, enabling structural endurance monitoring and future structural health awareness through ABS\u2019 customised analysis program.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the series under construction (<em>YM Centennial<\/em>, <em>YM Capacity<\/em> and <em>YM Cooperation<\/em>) will be accredited with DNV GL\u2019s SmartShip descriptive notations. The SmartShip OE (operating enhancement) and PE (performance enhancement) terms to be applied signify the use of advanced technologies to achieve, for instance, improved container load flexibility with route-specific container stowage and fuel saving through trim optimisation.<\/p>\n<p>Third-of-class <em>YM Credential<\/em> has been specified with the SMARTSHIP (Machinery 1) notation of Bureau Veritas, relating to the use of an integrated computer-based system for the control and monitoring of automated installations in periodically unattended machinery spaces. The same arrangements will apply to the forthcoming <em>YM Constancy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, seven of the vessels in the series are being certified by Taiwan\u2019s own, non-IACS society CR (formerly the China Corporation Register of Shipping) to confirm smart characteristics. The Smartship H, Et and I notations reflect, respectively, smart hull structural health estimation, smart energy efficiency\/trim optimisation, and smart integration platform.
