{"id":606,"date":"2020-10-08T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mercator.nfdtesting.uk\/propulsion-and-future-fuels-conference\/2020\/10\/08\/40r-df\/"},"modified":"2020-10-08T17:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T16:00:00","slug":"40r-df","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.motorship.com\/propulsion-and-future-fuels-conference\/news\/lng\/40r-df\/","title":{"rendered":"Successful TA test for MAN 32\/40R-DF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The TAT took place at the company\u2019s Augsburg, Germany works with the participation of DNV GL, American Bureau of Shipping, and Lloyd\u2019s Register.<\/p>\n<p>The test confirmed the suitability of the retrofit kit for converting the company&#8217;s MAN 32\/40 engine into a new dual-fuel unit \u2013 a so-called MAN 32\/40R-DF type \u2013 that can run on fossil and renewable, gaseous fuels, in addition to conventional fuel oil. MAN Energy Solutions confirms that the new retrofit package is already available to order.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unchanged dimensions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The converted engine&#8217;s bore and stroke are unchanged at 320mm and 400mm respectively. MAN ES confirms that the main dimensions of the engine are unchanged from the base MAN 32\/40 platform.<\/p>\n<p>The MAN 32\/40R-DF retrofit kit is available in six- to nine-cylinder configuration, and the output in fuel oil mode is unchanged from the MAN 32\/40 at 500 kW\/cylinder. The output in gas mode from the retrofit engine is 400kW\/cylinder.<\/p>\n<p>The company expects conversion-kit to meet customer demand for easy-to-fit conversion solutions that can be carried out while dry-docking or sailing. The engine is designed to operate primarily on gas \u2013 mainly boil-off gas. The new retrofit meets IMO Tier I emission limits, MAN ES notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Online type approval test<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The TAT was primarily held online. Class society representatives followed proceedings remotely and only visited the testbed on the final day for component inspection and TAT certificate signing.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Matthias Auer, Head of Performance and Emission, R&amp;D 4-Stroke at MAN Energy Solutions, said: \u201cOur special thanks goes to all our colleagues who made this retrofit project such a success and who helped us reach this important milestone, despite the difficult circumstances posed by COVID-19.
