Steering loss caused $6 million in damages

A bulk carrier’s loss of steering led to an estimated $6 million in damages when it contacted a barge near New Orleans, the US National Transportation Safety Board said in its investigation report.

The failure of a solid-state relay contributed to a bulk carrier’s loss of steering in the Mississippi River near New Orleans, according to the a US National Transportation Safety Board investigation.
