Yanmar confirms first commercial PEM FC delivery
Yanmar Power, a subsidiary of Yanmar, has announced that it has completed the first delivery of its new hydrogen fuel-cell system. The system was supplied to a 33-metre long passenger vessel Hanaria, which was launched in September. The vessel is expected to be delivered by Hongawara Shipyard by April 2024.
The vessel will be operated by MOTENA-Sea, a company backed by MOL and other investors. The vessel features a low temperature PEMFC marine fuel-cell system featuring twin 240kW fuel cells.
The vessel is Japan’s first hybrid passenger ship to use both hydrogen and biodiesel and operates using an onboard electric propulsion system.
Yanmar PT took charge of the ship’s comprehensive power system design, incorporating two hydrogen fuel cells, batteries, biodiesel generators, power management system, propulsion equipment, remote monitoring, and other elements.
