New wind farm ship order for Fjellstrand

Norwegian yard Fjellstrand has announced a contract, worth about NOK300 million, with Siem Offshore for the construction of an infield support vessel to the Ulstein SX 163 design for delivery in March 2014.

The contract includes an option for one additional vessel. The ship will be 74m in length, 17m beam and have accommodation for 60 persons

The hull will be built overseas, for completion and outfitting at the Fjellstrand Yard in Omastrand. According to the yard, strong growth in the offshore wind industry is responsible for a demand for large high-quality to install and service wind farms.

“The vessel shall be used for operations within the offshore renewable energy market and within the offshore oil and gas market with regards to installation, repair, maintenance and general service duties.” said Terje Sorensen of Siem Offshore.

The current orderbook at Flellstrand comprises two large offshore vessels and six wind server vessels for the offshore wind market, which is expected to provide full employment until the first quarter of 2014.
