Woes for shipowners and shipbuilders
The Motor Ship, January 1963, opened with a message from the UK Minister of Transport, the Rt Hon Ernest Marples. That reflects two facts: in those times this journal existed to promote the UK shipbuilding and marine engineering industry as well as the superiority of Diesel power over steam; and that shipping and shipbuilding in the UK were still important enough to occupy the thoughts of a senior government minister.
