Nord Gas Solutions has been selected by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to supply cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for two additional very large ethane gas carriers (VLECs) under construction in South Korea.

The vessels are being built at SHI’s yard for an established joint venture based in Asia. The latest order follows a previously announced contract covering five VLECs, further extending the relationship between Nord Gas Solutions, SHI and MOL.

“The award of these additional vessels is a strong vote of confidence from SHI,” said Harald Øverland, sales manager at Nord Gas Solutions.

Øverland said the repeat business reflected confidence in the company’s technology and its ability to support major vessel construction programmes.

“We are grateful for the continued trust in our solutions and look forward to supporting the successful delivery of these vessels,” he said. “Repeat orders such as this demonstrate the value of our technology, expertise, and long-term partnerships.”

Nord Gas Solutions will provide engineering for the cargo handling and fuel gas supply system process plant, together with associated subsystems. Its scope also includes equipment, instrumentation, interface materials connecting the cargo tanks and hull, and the cargo control system.

Company specialists will support SHI throughout the construction and commissioning phases of the vessels.

The repeat order highlights the continued development of the companies’ cooperation, with Nord Gas Solutions’ technology already selected for a series of VLECs. The vessels are designed to transport ethane, a gas increasingly used as a feedstock for petrochemical production.

Equipment deliveries for the latest order are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027.

The contract comes shortly after the creation of Nord Gas Solutions as a new corporate brand following the acquisition of Wärtsilä Gas Solutions by Mutares SE & Co. The transaction became effective on 1 June 2026.
