Propulsion & Future Fuels 2018 featured a shipowner panel discussing plans for the future fleet of commercial shipping.

The opening session of Propulsion & future Fuels 2018 included leading voices in the sector; Sjaak Klap, V.P., Business Development Department, Spliethoff; Tor Øyvind Ask, Fleet Director, Solvang ASA; John Bradshaw, Technical Director, International Chamber of Shipping; Thomas David, Head New Building, John T. Essberger GmbH & Co.KG; and Piter Oosterhof, Fleet Manager, Royal Wagenborg.

Following their presentations and questions from the audience, shipowners took part in interviews with The Motorship Editor, Gavin Lipsith in which they discussed their ambitions for future shipping.

Sjaak Klap, V.P., Business Development Department, Spliethoff spoke about the 2050 deadline, urging shipowners not to be complacent and begin their preparations now.

Tor Øyvind Ask, Fleet Director, Solvang ASA shared his views on the challenges facing tanker operators who must achieve CO2 emissions reduction targets, explaining that he feels there is no technical solution available at present and that it will be down to biofuels.

Thomas David, Head New Building, John T. Essberger GmbH & Co.KG spoke of his time spent at this year’s conference and the benefits of being able to choose between propulsion or fuels.
